Summertime Fitness

Although I haven’t gone on any exciting vacations this summer, it has been a great one! There are a few things that I have done lately that stick out in particular …

Bootcamp!

Starting on June 21st, I did my first “bootcamp” series of classes which ran for six consecutive weeks on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays at 7am.

I decided to sign up because I always hear about how strengthening your core and upper body can help improve running ability. Plus, having abs wouldn’t hurt either!

I’m not going to lie, it was tough … and waking up at 6:30am on Saturdays and Sundays wasn’t easy either! Between work and bootcamp, I basically didn’t get to sleep in for a month and a half.

But as with most types of intense exercise, I felt great after and could start my day knowing that I had accomplished more before 8am than some people do all day. It was a lot of fun and I got to learn from a couple of very knowledgeable and entertaining trainers from Practical Power Fitness.

I’ve now completed the entire six weeks and I feel and look much stronger. I also learned a bunch of new exercises (like strength exercises using a towel) and have improved my push ups (in form and ability to do them).

Slo-pitch!

After three or so years of losing in the playoff finals, my spring slopitch team FINALLY brought the trophy home! Or so to speak … In actuality we just got sweatshirts that say “slopitch” on them.

Lululemon nooner yoga!

Lululemon has been hosting free yoga classes at Jack Poole Plaza on Wednesdays at lunch all summer. I’ve gone to four of them and I really enjoyed all of them! It is the first time that I have participated in an event like this and it was a very different and wonderful vibe practicing yoga with a huge group of people in the sunshine overlooking the ocean and mountains.

The instructors are very accomplished and it is interesting to see their different styles, from more aerobic and active to meditative and spiritual. They are accompanied by a different DJ each time which complements the yoga with the perfect music.

It runs until the end of August and all levels are welcome! I highly recommend checking it out.

I started running about three years ago. Until this time i had never considered myself a runner and actually hated running. I’m not sure what changed but i’m glad it did! I enjoy sharing my thoughts, training, and experiences through my blog and encouraging and supporting others in their running journeys.

Since becoming a runner, I have completed a handful of half marathons, three full marathons, and four ultra marathons. However, my biggest accomplishments have been running the Rim2Rim2Rim in the Grand Canyon and completing a seven-day, 250km stage race in the Alps. These were adventures of a lifetime and something I had never imagined that I would do even in my wildest dreams!
