On Saturday, I joined them on an orientation run for the Golden Ears race. There are two routes for each do their races: sport and enduro. For this particular race the sport distance was 8k and the enduro about 14k.
The morning was beautiful! Warm and sunny. We met at the lake and after a brief speech and a group selfie, we headed out on the trails. We chose the enduro 14k route which had been well-marked with spray chalk ahead of time.
About 6k in we came to the big climb aptly titled “incline.” It is a short but incredibly steep grind. I slogged up about half of it “running” … at a snail’s pace. About halfway up I gave in a walked the rest of the way to the top. It was more or less downhill from there!
We came to a beautiful waterfall where the course marker had gotten a little creative. This made for an awesome photo opportunity!
The route ended back at the lake, where there were a lot more people enjoying the outdoors than when we started at 9am. A group of us headed to the nearby pub for a post-run beer and burger.
