Do you use protein powder? I sure do! Ever since I started eating a vegan diet and running regularly (read: excessively), I started adding protein powder to my smoothies. Not necessarily every day, but definitely several times a week.
People often ask me how I get my protein as a vegan. There are many non-meat sources of protein (quinoa, seeds, nuts, hummus) and you can get ample protein by eating plant-based foods, just ask the No Meat Athlete and ultramarathoner, Matt Frazier!
In a perfect world I would make all my meals from scratch using whole foods and wouldn’t need any supplements (except B12). However, in my experience this isn’t always practical. I sometimes slack off in the meal preparation department so I like to use protein powder, especially post workout.
Everlast VP Pro Vegan Protein Mix
The ingredients are plant protein (pea protein, rice protein, hemp protein), carrageenan, sea salt, natural flavor, stevia glycoside.
I had to look up what Carrageenan is. According to Wikipedia, it is a vegetarian and vegan alternative to gelatin in some applications and from what I’ve read, it is a somewhat contraversal ingredient that some choose to avoid.
Also of note, Everlast VP is made or packaged in the same facility as products that contain milk, eggs, wheat and soy. I’m not so die-hard vegan to be concerned about this, nor am I allergic to any of those ingredients.
So far I’ve only tried a sample of the vanilla VP. I mixed it with almond milk as I wanted to be able to taste the flavour of the powder. It was really good and I bet would be amazing in a smoothie too! I look forward to trying more soon!
