It was time to start getting serious about this running stuff so last weekend I decided to get at least a 30 km run in. On Saturday, three of us headed up to Golden Ears for what amounts to a full day including travel time, running time, and, of course, lunch after.
After just over 4 km we bumped into some friends out for a 15 km run just before incline trail (whose name doesn’t do it justice). We all tackled the steep hill together and took a group shot at the top before parting ways.
We did a bit of a loop and carried on along the trails parallel to the road until the point we figured we should turn around. We hopped over to the other side of the road and went down a trail which turned out to be a dead end at the lake. We poked around fruitlessly a bit to see if we could find another trail leading out of therand ended up bushwacking back to the original trail to double back.
When we arrived back at the parking lot, my watch showed just over 29 km so we did a quick add on to round it up to an even 30 km. Success – goal achieved! I felt encouraged by how good I felt (although definitely ready to be done). I was glad to still have gas left in my tank, so to speak, because the next day I had planned to run 15 km.
Six people and three dogs (including mine) met Sunday morning for a loop around the lake. It was another beautiful, warm (for January) day. The dogs had a blast chasing each other around.
For long run #2, my legs felt really good! We split up near the end as some people had to get home but I was determined to do 15 km. Chris, Hadley, and I added on a few more kilometres before grabbing a coffee from the nearest Starbucks.
