Weekend Adventures: Cultus Lake Run & Volunteering at Cap Crusher

Saturday, March 19

With only two weeks left until my big race, the Gorge Waterfalls 100k, a group of us went for a 26k trail run around Cultus Lake. We have done the same route a number of times lately but for the first time the trails were relatively dry instead of the usual never-ending mud puddles. The weather also cooperated so I pranced around in my new Oiselle long roga shorts and a medium-weight long sleeve shirt the whole time.

I was encouraged by how the run felt like an “easy” 30k. My legs felt great and I could have continued on longer. It was also the fastest I’ve ever done that loop!

I volunteered for the Coast Mountain Trail SeriesCap Crusher on Sunday as a course Marshall stationed near the fish hatchery. This means I got to cheer on the runners and point them in the right direction. I saw quite a few familiar faces including Paul of Hills4Thrills.com and Jacki of 1happypace.com (although I didn’t realize it at the time).

The weather was a bit drizzly but not too bad down in the Capilano Canyon where I was positioned. It was a bit chilly but luckily I had two pairs of pant and three jackets on.

As usual, it was a super fun event! They even had a birthday cake for the race and tons of awesome prizes to give away, including a Suunto Ambit3.
